Alpaca's wool is one of the finest textile fibers in the world and Perú produces it since very old times.
Grown up on the Andes highlands in freezing cold, alpacas have developed more thermal capacity than any other animal. The fiber of its wool contanis microscopic air bags that make possible the production of light weight garments with high thermal value.
Three times stronger and seven times warmer than sheep's wool, it does not rip easily nor cause static, is hypoallergenic and easily washable. With an adequate care this garment is almost indestructible. Even more, the natural shine of a 100% alpaca garment, makes it look simply...spectacular.
The temperature in the Andes, at 4,500 meters above sea level, is extremely changeable: from 18 to 20 centigrade degrees below zero, during the night; the temperature can reach 15 to 18 degrees above zero in the morning. The solar radiation intensity, the rarefied atmosphere and the icy cold wind are also some of the difficult conditions that prevail in these high places.
To survive in this rough enviroment, the South American Camelidae are provided with a very special protection.
Throughout the centuries, these species have developed a very fine and light fleece; it does not retain water and can resist the solar radiation effectively. These characteristics guarantee the animals a permanent and appropiate coat to fight against the extreme changes of temperature.
